Ensuring your alcohol level is at zero mg before driving…

Although I normally spend my working hours thinking of road safety, I often do spread the word even when I’m not officially working. My kids have experienced my passion when it comes to road safety for pretty much their entire lives. As my kids are now all adults, I’ve expanded on this. My two sons are legal drinking age and we’ve talked about the need to have zero alcohol in their bloodstream before driving. They share this belief and do the right things to avoid driving if they’ve had any alcohol. Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to help them stay at zero and know they are at zero mg of alcohol before they drive.

In order to help keep my son’s blood alcohol level at zero, I gave him a single-use breathalyzer to use after attending a party. He knew I was going to ask questions the next day, so he was prepared.

After the party, my son planned to use an Uber to get home and pick his car up the next day. A pretty smart plan if you ask me. Why take chances with your life or anyone else’s life? Why risk the fine and criminal charges? All of this was planned ahead of time, including having the single-use breathalyzer.

When he awoke the next day he took the single-use breathalyzer and blew into it and it read zero mg. of alcohol. He had confidence to know he was ok and legal to drive his vehicle. As a younger, fully licenced driver, he still needs have an alcohol level of zero mg; not just for me or himself, but also according to the laws. This one-use breathalyzer did the trick and gave him the confidence to drive, even if he’s had one drink.

The device I had him use was from DRIVESAFE. It quickly measures your blood alcohol content (BAC) in a convenient manner. The DRIVESAFE express contains crystals within a single tube and when the user blows into the tube, the crystals change colour when they detect alcohol. The higher alcohol concentration you have, the darker the crystal colours become. It also measures the percentage of alcohol in four possible readings; 0.00%, 0.02%, 0.05% and 0.08%.

Laws are tough, but they’re tough for a reason. Knowing your alcohol level is at zero is important to know before driving, including the next day. Driving impaired ruins everyone’s life, but it doesn’t have to happen that way. Avoiding your vehicle is the best way to avoid driving while impaired, but sometimes you could be impaired without fully realizing it.

I was speaking with an officer who had once pulled a driver over and they blew almost three times the legal limit. They claimed they had not had a drink that day, but they did the day before. That “hangover” you’re feeling is still impairment. Wouldn’t it be nice to know you’re down to zero mg of alcohol before you drive, including the next day so you can pick up your vehicle? If you’re interested in these single-use breathalyzers, drop me a note and I can set you up. It will be well worth your investment.
