Communicating to others while driving just got easier

There seems to be a time when we’re driving that we wish we had a chance to communicate with others around us, beyond our turn signals, brake lights and horn. Some drivers may use their hands and arms to communicate, but don’t you wish there was another way to communicate to other road users?

Let me rephrase this; communicating in a good way, not to yell or insult others. No one needs to add to the problem of road raging on our roads. What if more people replied to others or communicated to other road users in a positive manner? Wouldn’t that help keep drivers happier behind the wheel? Would that allow them to make more rational driving decisions? I think so and I know I’m not the only one who thinks this.

I was recently introduced to a new device that may keep other road users happy while creating a positive climate for road safety. It’s called Carwink. It’s rather unique as it sends simple messages which can be seen by those outside of the vehicle. From a thumbs up, to “thanks” to “pedestrian crossing”, it sends a friendly message to other road users which are sure to get a smile from them.

At first I was wondering how it could affect the driver if it was in their vehicle. To avoid it becoming a visual distraction for the driver, it’s on voice command. The driver can send a verbal message to Carwink and it activates the unit. Because it shows emojis, it’s a quick message to pedestrians, cyclists or drivers and that’s all. It’s enough to make you smile when you see it, but not enough to distract you. And no one needs more distractions, right?

So why would I be promoting such a thing? It’s simple actually. It can create a positive influence on our roads. Anything which can help to create a positive driving experience without distracting the driver is a good thing. The driver can stay focused on the driving task while just performing a simple verbal command to activate Carwink. The viewers outside the vehicle can easily view it, which just may create a smile on their face. Carwink is easily attached to the window, out of the driver’s view, but in view of others.

I think it would be fun to give it a try. It’s solar charged so there’s no wiring or batteries to think about in your vehicle. Even us “non-techie” people can get it to work. If you know someone who would enjoy communicating to others to say “thanks”, “need help” or “good job”, this just may be the thing for them. It could be the gift for the driver who seems to have everything. I know it will make it to my wish list.
