Don’t forget your lunch!

Staying focused on things we’re doing can quite often be a challenge. We get so sidetracked in what we’re doing that we sometimes forget to complete our original tasks. Have you ever felt that way? You know; you start a task but end up doing something else and at some point you know you’ve forgotten something. Well, it seemed to happen to someone in my neighbourhood recently.

I was out with one of my sons recently when I spotted a vehicle with what appeared to be something on its roof. As we got closer, I realized it was a food container at the front seat passenger side of the vehicle. I can just imagine what the passenger was doing. They were preoccupied with something and placed their take-out food container on the roof of the vehicle as they were getting to the vehicle. They then forgot what they were doing as they were getting into their vehicle and left their food on the roof.

A few blocks later, we both ended up stopping at the red light so I got out and walked over to the vehicle stopped behind me to return their lunch to them. The passenger looked alarmed as she saw the driver ahead of them walk over to her side of the vehicle. However, the driver still lowered the passenger side window as I got closer. I reached up and grabbed the food, which looked pretty good actually, and handed it to the passenger. She laughed and I walked back to my vehicle so I could get going again once the traffic light changed to green.

As I continued through the intersection, I glanced in my mirror and saw the passenger give me the “thumbs up” sign. It was lucky that I wasn’t afraid to do something to help. If they gained enough speed to make that container blow off their roof, it could have caused problems for the driver behind them. It may have startled the driver behind enough to make them swerve into oncoming traffic or into a group of pedestrians. What if it blew off and actually hit a pedestrian or cyclist? No one really wants to be injured by food now, do they?

When I was a kid I remember my dad lost his sunglasses after coming home from camping. Later that night while looking out of my sister’s top floor bedroom window, I spotted the sunglasses on the roof of the camper. I guess my dad put them there while packing things up and forgot about them. What have you forgotten on the roof of your vehicle? Hopefully it wasn’t damaged, lost or…eaten.
