Should I go to the dentist because I have a Bluetooth?

I recently received a gift from my family; a new hands-free unit for my cell phone. My previous device came with the phone and had two earplugs. The mic was down the wires and often made it seem that I was in another room than my phone. Since Ontario now has a ban on hand-held devices, I thought this was a good, practical gift and I like practical gifts!

My new Bluetooth is an excellent device to allow me to keep both hands on the wheel while driving. The voice activated calling system is a great way to start a call without having to look at your phone. The new Ontario law, similar to laws across North America jurisdictions, requires the phone to be in a secure place; such as a cup holder or an actual phone holder. Leaving it on the seat is a no-no. It has to be secure as to avoid being an added distraction, such as looking at the phone to dial a phone number. The voice activated system makes this an easier process.

Now, don’t get me wrong, the Bluetooth is great to keep your hands on the wheel, but your mind still has to be on your driving. The person that you’re speaking to on the other end of the phone can’t see what you’re trying to deal with while you’re driving. Despite the fact that you’re on the phone having an important conversation, you need to be in charge of your vehicle. To do this, set up rules for your phone conversation. Let the person you’re talking to know when they should stop talking. This can avoid having their voice as an added distraction while you’re trying to deal with a problem on the road. Let them know once it’s safe to continue with the conversation.

Keep your hands on the wheel, your eyes moving every two seconds and your mind on driving safely. By doing this, you can start driving just a little bit safer with the help of new technology.
