Canada’s Worst Driver…Ever!?
Well, they’re back. Another season of Canada’s Worst Driver has returned. This is season nine, but with a little bit of a twist compared to the previous eight seasons. If you’ve watched the series each of the first eight seasons, I’m sure you’ll recognize some of the participants. The producers have brought back previous participants to determine if they can actually drive. Will they be much better than the first time around? Will they be worse than the first time around? I had the pleasure of meeting half of the participants in this year’s show since I was a judge during season’s one, two and three. I’ve been in the vehicles with Michael Telford, Shelby D’Souza, Chris Ferguson and Henrietta Gallant previously and it was an experience to say the least. I’ve been able to chat with Chris and Shelby briefly since their original series ended and they seemed to grasp more of what drivers really needed to do, at least mentally. I was also able to speak with Henrietta’s husband Andy to offer suggestions and support (which they need desperately). Have they done enough to make better habits? Time will tell.
Although I haven’t met Shirley Sampson, I have had the pleasure of chatting with her through my blog when she was an original participant and I truly believe Shirley got something out of her experience while she was on her original show. I’m hoping she continues to grow and make logical choices as a driver. Will she? We’ll have to wait and see.
Although I did watch a few episodes of season five, I never really got a handle of how bad Angelina Marcantognini really was. Apparently, she still seems to drive just as bad as she did while on her original series. What seems to be her problem? Perhaps more professional training is what she really needs, that and an attitude adjustment maybe?
I watched most of what Dale Pitton did in season six and was disappointed. Wanting to make a change is the first part of a bad driver getting better. Making excuses doesn’t work so well. After all, who is she trying to convince with her excuses; her or her family and friends?
I watched Sly Grosjean through season seven. He seems like such a nice guy, but not really aware of his driving surroundings. Has he learned enough to not be named Canada’s Worst Driver…Ever? I certainly hope so. Being open-minded to accept new ideas and brave enough to try them is a big part of what Sly will have to go through. Good luck to him; he’ll need it.
Finally, I also watched Kevin Simmons throughout season eight last year and his attitude is much more dangerous than his lack of vision. Kevin is on the show this year to prove he has learned a lot. Shouldn’t he be trying to prove it to himself first? Last year it seemed like Kevin ignored what he was being taught. If he really wants to be a better driver, Kevin will need to swallow his pride and make changes given to him from the professionals.
So, who will be Canada’s Worst Driver Ever? Part of me wishes I was back as a judge to see it live for myself. It would have been nice to catch up with those I’ve met. However, part of me is glad that I’m safely at home and nowhere near Canada’s Worst Driver…EVER!
